Ewenny Road Roundabout Development A Residents View History of Correspondence with Bridgend County Borough Council During November 2001 Bridgend County Borough Council advised residents local to the roundabout o their intention to install traffic control measures on the above roundabout. Residents were provided with a civil engineering diagram of the proposal and invited to offer their view regarding the proposals. I, along with many others, wrote to offer my views. The Borough Council wrote sent a very polite response, acknowledging my comments but not acting upon them. The thrust of my comments were related to how the development of the traffic control scheme would impact on residents, particularly with regard to making ingress / egress to their properties and increased vibration, noise and fumes due to standing traffic etc. Since the roundabout development has been put into service I, again along with many others, residents and motorists alike, have complained to the Borough Council. These complaints again relate to the safety aspects of entering or leaving one’s drive in the midst of so much traffic, all being released simultaneously into the direction of one’s home as a result of the traffic control. The lane demarcation has been a shambles, the timing and sequencing of the lights ridiculous; many motorists have ‘phoned complaints into the Borough Council. Unfortunately the Borough Council seem only to take seriously letters of complaint, easy means of voicing one’s concern or dissatisfaction are dismissed. Available on this site are copies of correspondence to and from Bridgend County Borough Council. Please take the time to read them. Of particular interest are the comments contained in the bottom paragraph of page 2, continuing onto page 3. These comments are summarized in the following table:
The above figures show a projected 82% increase in traffic flow due to committed projects. We do not yet know what the committed projects are. We are made aware by the Borough Council that they are committed to projects that will result in traffic flow along the A48 that are greater than the design capacity of both the A48 and that of the re-developed roundabout. We do not yet know what these committed projects are, but have requested more information. We intend to continue our dialogue with the Borough Council and would greatly appreciate your help and support in doing so.
