Musings from the roundabout

Picture the scene. It is an idyllic day at the end of March, strange to have such warm weather this time of year, but welcome nonetheless. The distant whirr of lawn-mowers can be heard and the alluring smell of barbecues floats in the air. I can see the continuous lines of day-trippers restlessly sitting in their cars, on their way to our beautiful coastline. Where do they all come from? Five minutes have slipped by and my radio entertains with melodies from the past. I sit, basking in the warmth, the aromas of the sewage works wafting by in the light breeze. This unexpected bout of warm weather has also brought out the home-makers wending their way to the local stores in search of exotic paints and wallpapers. Again, where do all they come from? I realize that ten minutes has now slipped by and the radio has now become a distant hum in the background. My thoughts stray to the news on the radio and I wonder if, in the great scheme of things, I will ever be noticed. There is a small fly buzzing around, getting on with its life and I watch it, wondering if it ever gets stressed as we humans do. The never-ending traffic snakes by. After fifteen minutes has passed I start to feel a little lethargic in this warmth, although the traffic lights provide a welcome distraction.  I cast impassioned-looking pleas to the assorted motorists that surround me and my car. PLEASE LET ME OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY!
